Common Emergencies

Warning Signs of an Emergency

  • Loss of consciousness, seizures, disoriented

  • Difficulty breathing

  • Bleeding

  • Pale gum color

  • Fainting episodes

  • Persistence of bloody vomit/diarrhea

  • Extremely bloated abdomen

  • Retching unproductively, with or without abdominal distension

  • Collapse

  • Eye problems (of any kind)

  • Difficulty or inability to urinate

  • Inability to walk/move legs

  • Body temperature over 104 degrees or under 99 degrees

  • Difficulty delivering puppies or kittens

  • Porcupine quills

  • Lacerations

  • Severe hives or severe itching

  • History of:

              - Trauma (hit by car, broken bones)

              - Ingestion of foreign substances or toxins

              - Electric shock

              - Burns
